exfoliated face - babyface

After sunscreen, exfoliation is the best thing you can do for your skin. The dead cells on your face may seem innocuous enough, but they can cause all kinds of troubles.

Lost your glow? Guilty. Breaking out like crazy all the time? Guilty. Your makeup goes on patchy? Guilty again.

Whatever your skin is dealing with, removing that first layer of dead cells helps immensely. Here are all the reasons why you should kick-start your skincare routine with exfoliation:

  1. Exfoliation Speeds Up Cellular Turnover

Did you know your skin renews itself every 28 days? Every month your skin is brand new. The old and damaged cells disappear, replaced by newer, healthier ones that are brighter, smoother and even-toned.

But, as you get older, this process, which goes by the name cellular turnover, becomes slower and sloppier. That's why in your 20s your skin always looks perfect and by the time you're 40, you're wondering why it's not as bright and soft as it used to be.

Worry not. Exfoliation speeds up cellular turnover, helping your skin renew as quickly as it naturally did when you were younger.

  1. Exfoliation Gives Your Skin A Beautiful Glow

Your face puts up with a lot. In winter, it's exposed to the harsh winds and freezing temperatures. In summer, to the burning heat and excessive sweat. And all year round it has to deal with pollution and other toxins in the air.

Those dead cells on the surface of your skin take quite a beating every day. No wonder they soon become dull and lackluster! A little bit of regular exfoliation will get rid of all those damaged dead cells and give your skin its healthy glow back.

  1. Exfoliation Smoothens Out Skin

The regular beating dead cells endure dosn't just rob them of their glow. Their softness vanishes too, turning your skin into a dry and rough mess. By replacing these old cells with new, healthier ones, your skin will become silky smooth again. Plus, it also makes wrinkles look smaller, too. There is nothing exfoliation can't smooth out!

  1. Exfoliation Prevents And Treats Blemishes

Whether you're dealing with a full acne outbreak or the odd annoying blackhead, exfoliation can come to the rescue. Breakouts, blackheads and even whiteheads are all forms of acne that form in the same way: they occur when your pores are clogged with excess sebum and dead skin cells. This mixture forms clogs in the pores that can either become infected (pimples), oxidize and turn black when they come in touch with air (blackheads) or retain their natural colour (whiteheads).

Either way, by regularly removing away those pesky dead cells on the surface of your skin, you'll prevent them from clogging your pores and causing blemishes in the first place. And if the damage has already been done, exfoliation can help treat it quickly.

  1. Exfoliation Fades Dark Spots

The dead skin cells on the surface of your skin are very old. They're the oldest skin cells you have. The ones that have taken the hardest beating. They're dull and rough and, in the worst cases, darker, creating uneven spots and patches on your skin.

Sometimes, they're the result of sun damage. Other times, it's melasma. Whatever the cause, by removing the most damaged layer, those dark spots will lighten up. It can take a while to get rid of them for good, but don't get discouraged. Exfoliators and peels are your most powerful weapons against all kinds of discolourations.

  1. Exfoliation Enhances Your Skincare Routine

There's a reason why exfoliation is done after cleansing and toning. When those pesky dead cells accumulate too much, they form a force field on your skin that's difficult for your skincare products to get through. And if they can't get through it, they won't work as well. If you want to see results quickly, remove all obstacles in their way.

  1. Exfoliation Creates A Smooth Canvas For Makeup

When your skin is all rough and flaky, your first instinct is to apply a thick layer of foundation to cover everything up. But, that always backfires. Rather than cover those problematic spots, your foundation clings stubbornly to them, making them look even more obvious.

The solution? You've guessed it: exfoliation. It gets rid of the flaky patches, creating a smoother canvas for your makeup. Now no one will know what state your skin was in!

There's no end to the benefits exfoliation has for your skin. No matter what skin type you have, exfoliation is the best-kept secret to keep it glowy and younger-looking.

We have a lot of products to help your skin stay soft and smooth, just take a look at our Exfoliation Category when you get a chance!
