5 Ways To Use Aloe Vera For Hair

Aloe vera for hair, you say? Who knew!

I bet you're already using aloe vera to treat a sunburn. When you've lingered a little too long under the sun's warm rays, there's nothing like aloe vera to soothe the pain and redness away. But did you know that this skincare summer hero doubles up as a scalp and hair savior as well? It can save you from many bad hair days, give you shiny locks and prevent dandruff and hair loss, too.

Here are all the reasons why a good aloe vera gel should be part of your haircare routine this summer… and beyond:

What's In An Aloe Vera Gel?

Aloe vera, obviously. The juice is derived from the leaves (it oozes out as soon as you cut them open). It's made mostly of water but there are plenty of other goodies in there, too. They include 20 minerals, 18 amino acids, 12 vitamins and around 200 phytonutrients. Talk about natural goodness!

Our Pure Organic Aloe Vera Gel also has Centella Asiatica Extract, a herb used in Asian skincare for centuries to relieve itchiness and irritations. It doesn't get gentler than this.

How To Use An Aloe Vera On Hair

  1. Pre-Shampoo

Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could give your dandruff shampoo a helping hand at getting rid of that annoying fungus? A pre-shampoo treatment with aloe vera is just the ally it needs. Aloe vera has natural enzymes that destroy Malassezia (the fungus that causes dandruff) and the dead skin cells on your scalp without compromising its natural ph. Here's how to do it: massage the gel into your scalp and leave it there for 10 minutes. Rinse it off and shampoo your hair as usual. Bye bye dandruff!

  1. Conditioner

The salty ocean water, the scalding heat and the flat/curling irons you use to create those beautiful dos can take their toll on your hair and turn it into a dry, straw-like mess. If you don't like the idea of using a traditional conditioner, switch to aloe vera. With its high water content and 20 amino acids, it's super moisturizing. It makes your hair soft and shiny again and helps your comb glide through smoothly, easily detangling every knot in its path. For best results, apply it to damp hair, starting at the scalp and working your way downwards. Wrap your hair in a towel for 15 minutes and then rinse off. Hello, shiny, soft hair!

  1. Hair Grower

I've already mentioned aloe vera's keratolytic action: it helps remove dead skin cells from the scalp, preventing dandruff. But this scalp exfoliation has another benefit, too: it gets rid of the skin cells that are clogging your follicles. At the same time, the juice delivers to your follicles the nutrients that promote hair growth. With nothing standing in their paths, they can do their job so much better!

  1. Scalp Soother

Psoriasis and eczema don't affect only your face or body. They can get a hold of your scalp, too. And, you guessed it, removing those pesky dead skin cells is the key to soothing the drama, too. Aloe vera does the job well, alleviating the redness, scaling and inflammation of the scalp. It soothes that terrible itch, too – no more scratching your head, which just makes things way worse.

  1. Hair Loss Treatment

Does anyone in your life suffer from alopecia? It's a common problem that leads to hair loss in specific areas of the head. In the worst cases, it affects almost all of it. Aloe vera is well known to reduce, if not considerably slow down, alopecia. Its secret? It helps rejuvenate the hair follicles and reduce hair fall. But, there's a catch: you need to use it regularly to see results.

And there you have it. Who knew that aloe vera was such a godsend for your dry hair and itchy scalp?SaveSave

  • This is such a great article! Thank you. I never would have thought on Aloe Vera on my hair.
Do you have a recommendation for an Aloe Cera product?
That would help me even more!
