How Light Therapy Works for Anti-Aging
Infrared light, with a wavelength of 880nm (nanometers) and red light, with a wavelength of 660nm, work in combination to create a regenerating effect in aging skin. These light waves penetrate deep into the dermis layers, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and helping cells reproduce faster. The result is the general reduction and reversal of fine lines and wrinkles along with firmer, plumper skin texture. Red and infrared LED light also provides a soothing effect to the external layers of skin, enhancing natural coloration while reducing the signs of aging due to blemishes, sun and age spots.
How Light Therapy Works for Acne
Blue light, with a wavelength of 415nm has demonstrated the ability to target and destroy bacteria that reside on or in the dermis layers of skin. It has been long documented that UV light kills acne but also delivers negative effects, like premature aging and the risk of skin cancer. Non-UV blue LED light in the 415nm produces the same antibacterial effects of UV light without the damaging effects of the skin structure.
reVive Light Therapy® incorporates Deep Penetrating Light (dpl®) technology into our blue light products as well, which allows our light to penetrate deeper into the skin structure and treat bacteria that reside at a depth that traditional acne treatment topicals can’t reach.
Honorable Mentions
“I also have an LED light. It’s very portable. It’s almost like a book and you open it in front of your face. It’s called dpl® II.”—Alicia Keys, Making Time for Self Care
“‘It’s been shown that the LED light emitted can affect the biology of the skin in a positive way, reducing inflammation and helping with conditions like acne, rosacea, and eczema,’ says Paul Jarrod Frank, M.D. Other benefits: There are no side effects, no downtime, and this kind of treatment can easily be done in the privacy of your own bathroom. One to try: the dpl® II, a full-face wrinkle reduction LED light therapy panel.”—Melanie Rud Chadwick
“I’m always skeptical of these devices but a knowledgeable friend recommended the dpl® II. I’ve used it for three weeks now and my skin is unquestionably improved. It is firmer, my age spots are faded and most surprising of all, my little jowls have disappeared, and my neck is tighter. This particular machine, cleared for wrinkle use by the FDA, claims to have optimum results after 10 weeks.”—realself member

LED Light Therapy: Factors to Consider Before Use
Skin Sensitivity
As everyone has different skin sensitivity levels, it’s important to test your light sensitivity before using your light therapy device on a continual basis. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to test! Just power on your device and place it on or within ¼” of the skin on your forearm for three minutes. After time is up, check the area to see if the area has turned red. If redness lasts for more than two hours, your skin is light sensitive. You should discontinue use.
Skin Irritation
Blue LED light therapy is a popular and effective treatment for acne. If you are using blue light therapy for this purpose, take note of your skin’s color before and after treatment. While it’s not a regular occurrence, some users may experience redness and/or mild irritation of the skin after use. In those cases, it is best to suspend treatment.
