About This Product
Babyface’s unique Pure Protein Treatment product is an easy to use, at-home protein concentrate that is applied twice a month to strengthen weakened or damaged hair. It replaces the lost and/or damaged natural keratin layer on the surface of the hair strand, making it stronger and filling in the gaps where damaged cuticles have chipped off.
For chemical treated and heat-damaged hair it fills in the pits that contribute to frizziness and split ends - which ultimately lead to breakage if left untreated. It also applies an even coating of protein to the hair strand so that your conditioner and hair beautifying products have something to stick to, making them work up to 10x better than without the treatment.
For thin and weak hair it physically thickens and strengthens it, so it can have a chance to grow without breaking. This treatment is highly recommended for those with thinning at the temples, weakened hair due to illness, and those trying to grow hair back after chemo treatments.
These days, just about everyone is doing something to their hair. Coloring it, adding highlights, straightening or curling it… even a blow dryer and hair brush will damage hair over time. Hair can only take so much, and it can’t repair itself. If you are doing these things to your hair, you may consider a regular protein treatment with our Pure Protein.
How Does Pure Protein Work?
When used as directed, the treatment deposits a protective layer of flexible protein onto the hair shaft. The protein fills in all of the places where the natural keratin has been damaged and chipped off, leaving “open wounds” on the hair shaft. This increases strength immensely.
The protein also has a second job – it retains moisture and nutrients from your conditioner, which effects the way hair feels. Without the protein, your hair really can’t “hold on” to conditioning products, so it all just washes away when you rinse, leaving little protection, if any. The protein, since it’s already adhered to the hair shaft, will retain the conditioner up to 10x better.
Remember, this is a concentrate. Only 1 capful is needed for each treatment. The dose may look small, but don’t be fooled.. a little goes a long way. The perfect amount of protein will be strong, yet still flexible when dry.
What Is Damaged Hair?
The hair shaft is made up of dead, hard protein called keratin, in three layers. The inner layer is called the medulla. The next layer is the cortex, and the outer layer is the cuticle. The cortex makes up the majority of the hair shaft. The cuticle is formed by tightly packed scales in an overlapping structure, similar to roof shingles.
When hair is damaged by chemicals, heat or trauma such as brushing through tangles, pieces of the cuticle chip off and expose the delicate cortex. Without it’s cuticle as protection, hair kinks (frizz) and is weak and breaks easily. When this happens near the bottom of the shaft, the layers of the exposed inner cortex start to peel and fray (split ends). The tear will travel up the shaft and eventually the shaft breaks. This is why it can be almost impossible for some people to grow their hair long. It just keeps breaking!
To repair the damage and stop the madness, you need to replace the missing keratin protein. This treatment will add extra protein onto the hair strand to build up those weak spots and provide more flexibility (not to mention protection from heat and styling).
Ingredients: Water, Hydrolized Collagen, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
Directions:
- Mix 1 capful of Pure Protein in a glass cup or bowl with enough of your favorite conditioner to cover your hair. Any brand of conditioner will work, but it’s recommend to use a moisturizing conditioner if you wish to achieve more of a silky feeling afterward. A hair repair mask or conditioner specifically for damaged hair works best. Set mixture aside.
- Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove all buildup. The hair shaft should be squeaky clean and completely free of any styling product/conditioner buildup or body oils so the protein can properly adhere. After washing, towel dry lightly to remove any dripping water.
- Apply protein/conditioner mixture to hair. Comb through until evenly distributed. Cover with a plastic shower cap (or plastic bag) and leave on for 20-30 minutes. Rinse out completely when time is up.
After application, blow your hair dry completely. For best results, use a brush to smooth and style hair while it is drying. This smooths any lifted cuticles and sets the protein. Styling hair immediately after the treatment will also help set a temporary “memory” and make styling easier for the next 2 weeks. You can also use a straightening or curling iron to style hair once dried. For those who are unable to apply heat to their hair, air drying is fine. Your hair will still be protected and strengthened, but please note that it might not feel much different to the touch.
What to expect after the treatment, and some useful Tips:
Use every 2 weeks. If hair is extremely damaged, you can do a treatment once a week, for the first 2 treatments, then transition to every 2 weeks after that.
After the application, wet hair might feel a bit tacky, this is because the protein is still wet/soft. Once dry, it feels silky. It is important to use a moisture conditioner to keep protein soft & pliable. Protein loves moisture! Without moisture, protein becomes hard and brittle. If your Pure Protein treatment didn't produce a silky feeling, try a more moisturizing conditioner with your next wash (and with your next protein treatment in 2 weeks).
Although the protein will dry over time on its own, for best results it is recommended that you completely blow dry your hair after application, as this will also smooth kinks caused by damaged cuticles. Using the hottest setting will help “set” the protein faster, and using a brush to smooth the hair while drying will also improve results. It is a step that will take an extra 15-20 minutes at most, but the results will be well worth it. As your hair dries, you will see the transformation as it goes from the dry feeling, to silky and smooth. After the first blow out, you can return to your normal routine and do whatever you like with your hair.
This treatment is not to be confused with the Brazilian Keratin smoothing treatments, with our protein treatment super-high heat is not needed or recommended. Normal levels of heat from an average hair dryer is perfectly fine. Using extremely high heat is very damaging to hair and we don't recommended that. We do realize that there are some who cannot use heat of any kind on their delicate hair, and that is OK. The protein will be there after the treatment whether you dry your hair with heat, or just air dry. The smoothing effects come with some heat and smoothing, but it's not necessary to benefit from the treatment.
If you plan to color your hair, doing a treatment a few days before will keep your hair from being damaged, and it will also be able to take and hold color much better. Same for relaxers and perms - both are very damaging to hair, so a treatment beforehand will save your hair! If you have very curly hair and are unable to blow it out smooth but still want to cure the treatment, you can use a diffuser attachment on your blow drier (or sit under a hood) so the heat is still applied and the protein is set.
