What is Sea Kelp Bioferment?
The luxury ingredient used in expensive products like La Mer, Sea Kelp Bioferment is a natural kelp extract that has been derived by fermentation of Sea Kelp using Lactobacillus, the same bacteria that produces yogurt. Fermentation breaks down the cellular tissue of the kelp leaf, which increases the bioavailability of the naturally occurring chemical compounds that are abundant in sea kelp.
Fermentation and the reduction of the kelp liquor results in the concentration of its vital nutrients. Naturally occurring algin, the mucilaginous intercellular material found in kelp thickens this product to its gel consistency.
How To Use It:
Sea Kelp Bioferment is a natural film former and acts as an excellent oil-free moisturizer and skin barrier protectant. It can be used full strength as a mask, or added to your favorite lotions or creams to boost the nutrients and their moisturizing abilities. Can be used on face and body.
One of our favorite uses is on the hair. Apply it sparingly to damp hair as you would a styling serum, or to refresh hair in-between washings. It adds shine and reduces frizz - all without any oil, silicones or added weight.
Those with red, flaky skin, or dry patches could see many benefits due to the high iodine content, natural anti-inflammatory actions, and skin barrier factors.
It is also a perfect base for oily skin types as it moisturizes without supplying extra oil. As well, it is very effective for normal and dry skin, as it is a powerful nutritive moisturizer.
To use as a moisturizer, apply directly onto clean skin in dry areas as needed, use as a mask, or mix into your favorite lotion or cream. Sea kelp is naturally film-forming, so it can create a film on the skin. Great for barrier protection, but could interfere with layering so apply last is using with other products. Applying to damp skin, very sparingly, will aid absorption.

CanadaI'm a little disappointed. I've tried other seaweed products before with great success. But this one has a really bad habit of pilling on my face. I've tried everything, exfoliating, making sure it isn't layered with heavier products, waiting for each product to dry, but it still does it and looks like my skin is flaking. I don't think I'll order it anymore. Too bad.
It could be that the previous product you used was diluted? This is a pure strength, undiluted seaweed bioferment. It's quite thick, and a very little goes a long way. Also remember that sea kelp is a natural film former, so this is part of its job - to create a skin barrier. It's so beneficial for the skin. A great way to use this product is as a mask, at night, or to mix in with other products. Also, we recommend to apply to damp skin, this will help dilute it some.
