Vitamin C (and its derivatives) benefits skin in two important ways. First, it’s essential for the synthesis of collagen, a key structural protein of the skin. Adding a vitamin C to skin cell cultures dramatically increases the synthesis of collagen. Second, vitamin C is a super-powerful antioxidant and can help reduce skin damage caused by free radicals.

Free radicals break down collagen, the “glue” that holds skin together, makes it firm, and preserves it’s wrinkle-free quality for as long as possible. Collagen also gives the skin resilience, lessening the likelihood of wrinkles.
