What is Sea Kelp Bioferment?
The luxury ingredient used in expensive products like La Mer, Sea Kelp Bioferment is a natural kelp extract that has been derived by fermentation of Sea Kelp using Lactobacillus, the same bacteria that produces yogurt. Fermentation breaks down the cellular tissue of the kelp leaf, which increases the bioavailability of the naturally occurring chemical compounds that are abundant in sea kelp.
Fermentation and the reduction of the kelp liquor results in the concentration of its vital nutrients. Naturally occurring algin, the mucilaginous intercellular material found in kelp thickens this product to its gel consistency.
How To Use It:
Sea Kelp Bioferment is a natural film former and acts as an excellent oil-free moisturizer and skin barrier protectant. It can be used full strength as a mask, or added to your favorite lotions or creams to boost the nutrients and their moisturizing abilities. Can be used on face and body.
One of our favorite uses is on the hair. Apply it sparingly to damp hair as you would a styling serum, or to refresh hair in-between washings. It adds shine and reduces frizz - all without any oil, silicones or added weight.
Those with red, flaky skin, or dry patches could see many benefits due to the high iodine content, natural anti-inflammatory actions, and skin barrier factors.
It is also a perfect base for oily skin types as it moisturizes without supplying extra oil. As well, it is very effective for normal and dry skin, as it is a powerful nutritive moisturizer.
To use as a moisturizer, apply directly onto clean skin in dry areas as needed, use as a mask, or mix into your favorite lotion or cream. Sea kelp is naturally film-forming, so it can create a film on the skin. Great for barrier protection, but could interfere with layering so apply last is using with other products. Applying to damp skin, very sparingly, will aid absorption.
To use for hair, apply sparingly to wet hair, then style at usual. Can also be added to your shampoo or conditioner as a healthy booster.

It was very soothing for my skin
I have tried so many products over the years to heal my sensitive, rosacea, acne prone skin. The closest I ever got was a tiny free sample of La Mer years ago, nothing has come close since and I’ve thought so many times about just giving in and buying it but it’s so unaffordable!! I went on a deep dive and discovered this. About a week in and my redness is so much better, I’ve even started just using a skin tint instead of foundation. My skin is clearer and happier even in the dry, winter, Midwest air. The texture is a little weird scooping it out of the jar, I kinda wouldn’t mind one of those little plastic spoons that comes with some balms… I also tried mixing it with my Nivea crème into a little pot but it doesn’t mix too easily. I found that just a little bit dabbed on my face and then the crème on top works well. Overall though, 10/10 stars! Will definitely be buying again!!! Thank you so much for making something that works so well and feels so luxurious for such a normal person price!
